Be Thoughtful
Tue, 26 June 2012 09:49:53 By: Dr. John Tibane When in trouble, don’t stop thinking! Even in trouble, you ought to think. If you stop thinking you start stinking. Don’t turn your trouble into stinking trouble. Thoughtfulness makes you see the situation differently. Remember, if you can’t change what you see, you must change the way you see it. This change in perspective happens in the mind. It is in thoughtfulness that you become creative. Being thoughtful means that you are full of thoughts. Be careful, however, what thoughts occupy your mind when in trouble. Paul in Philippians 4:8, gives us an appropriate scope of thoughtfulness: Whatever things are true, Whatever things are noble, Whatever things are just, Whatever things are pure, 6 Master Your Thoughts … Transform Your Life The philosophy of thinking 7 Whatever things are lovely, Whatever things are of good report, If there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy; Think on these Things. So be positive in your thoughts. Henry Ford said, ‘If you think you can or if you think you can’t, you are right.’ It’s best to think you can, and do something about your situation. Be Tactical Don’t be stupid. Don’t make your trouble worse than it is by doing foolish things. I often say that you must not kick indiscriminately without a technique, like a dying horse. More horses have died unnecessarily because, when injured, they start kicking unstrategically – dissipating the very energy that should sustain them until a veterinary surgeon arrives. What is worse, they even kick the people who are trying to help them. When in trouble, be strategic. Don’t waste your energy unnecessarily. Don’t bite the hand that brings help to you just because you are angry with everyone. Remember: danger is only one letter away from anger. Being tactical means ‘being strategic’. To strategise means to position yourself for success. So reposition yourself. Reorganise yourself. If you do not organise, you will agonise more. Plan to get out of trouble. You may be in hell, but you have not come to hell, you are just going through it. Be Teachable You ought to be teachable. This does not only mean that while in trouble there will be a teacher standing in front of you telling you what to do. It may also mean that there could be a book you read some time ago, a seminar you once attended in the past – this is the time to recollect the wisdom necessary for survival. Learn to listen to the inner voice. Your gut-feel could be your only guide when you are in a storm. That is why it is important to fine-tune your gut with wisdom for winning even during times when you are not in trouble. Feed your spirit with spiritual protein – you will need it in the future. Whatever things are true, Whatever things are noble, Whatever things are just, Whatever things are pure, Be Tenacious Never give up on your dreams. The storm came not to kill your dream, but to test it. Hold on to your dream. Persistence does pay. You can bounce back. Even this (storm) shall pass. No whirlwind lasts forever. Your trouble may be as big as a mountain – if so, be encouraged: mountains never grow but people do. So if you hold on to your dream, you will eventually grow beyond your problem.
